The Only True Beloved: 'You Alone Are the Everlasting'

Why every attachment to a perishable creature ends in sorrow, and how the phrase 'Ya Baqi Antal Baqi' heals the deepest fracture of the human heart.

The First Station of 'Ya Baqi Antal Baqi' (O Everlasting One, You alone are Everlasting): The human heart is intrinsically created for eternity. Human nature is fundamentally in love with permanence. Yet all the worldly objects of love in this realm are mortal, destined to wither and disappear. As long as a person attaches their ultimate love to transient forms, the departure of these forms constantly lacerates the heart with the unbearable agony of separation. Thus, the sacred declaration 'Ya Baqi Antal Baqi' acts as a supreme healing balm upon this wounded heart. It says: 'Do not grieve! The creatures you love are fleeting, but the Majestic and Beautiful Creator who is their true source and fountainhead is Everlasting. Love transient beings for His sake, and you will no longer suffer the despair of their departure!' The Second Station of 'Ya Baqi Antal Baqi': A person also harbors an intense love for their own existence. Yet that body too is frail, destined for decay. Looking at oneself, a person trembles at the terror of extinction. This second station proclaims: 'You are not your own master; your existence is the property of an Everlasting Sovereign. Attach yourself to that Everlasting One, and your existence will be preserved in eternity!'

Key Philosophical Insight

Despair in love comes from demanding permanence from things designed to pass away. When love is redirected to the Eternal Source, transience loses its sting.

Q&A Analysis & Recap

Q Does this mean human beings should stop loving people and the natural world?

A Not at all. It means loving them as reflections and gifts of the Eternal Creator rather than as independent idols. Loving the reflection for the sake of the Light makes love pure, tender, and free from possessive anxiety.
