Stand beside a swift river on a sunny morning. Tiny bubbles and ripples form on the water's surface, catch the golden sunlight, gleam brilliantly for a fraction of a second, and burst. As they vanish, new bubbles immediately rise and sparkle with the exact same radiant light.

If the bubbles perish, where does the light come from?

If the light originated from inside the bubble itself, then when the bubble broke, that radiance would be extinguished forever.

Yet the radiance continues uninterrupted. The bubbles say through their departure: "The light does not belong to us. We are only transient mirrors. The Sun above remains untouched by our popping."

This simple physical reality unlocks one of the deepest riddles of human emotion:

  • The Tragedy of Attachment: We fall in love with flowers, seasons, youthful vitality, and cherished companions. When they fade, our heart aches with the torment of separation.
  • The Root of the Ache: The pain comes because we mistakenly attach our heart to the fragile glass of the mirror, thinking the beauty belonged to the vessel.
  • The Liberation of Insight: When you realize the creature was merely a mirror reflecting Divine Beauty, you no longer despair over the shattered glass.

“Thus, passing away and physical departure is merely the changing of the mirrors; it is the constant renewal and eternal permanence of the true Light.” — Bediuzzaman Said Nursi, The Thirty-Second Word

The Guiding Perspective

The mirrors shatter, but the Sun remains. Celebrate every reflection you encounter along the road, but give your deepest love only to the Light that never sets.
