The Problem of Evil and Divine Wisdom

The dominion is His; He disposes of His dominion as He wishes. Just as a skillful tailor alters, cuts, trims, and lengthens a garment he has dressed you in, demonstrating his art—you cannot stand up and say, "You are hurting me, you are ruining my clothes." In exactly the same way, the Glorious Maker alters the shirt of the body He has dressed humanity in, cutting and trimming it through illnesses and calamities, so that the manifestations of His names such as the Healer, the Patient, and the Relied Upon may be understood. If there were no illness and calamity, life would become monotonous, gratitude would be forgotten, and humanity's yearning for eternity would be extinguished. Thus, beneath the calamities that appear ugly on the surface, there are infinite beauties.
